A few years ago, Content-Aware Fill made its debut in Photoshop, and it took the photo world by storm. Photographers could now ask Photoshop to fill in areas of an image intelligently by considering the content in the rest of the frame, and the results were often astounding. Now, we have taken the next step forward, and it looks like another paradigm shift for editing images.
Coming to you from Aaron Nace with Phlearn, this impressive video takes a look at the new Generative Fill feature in Photoshop. Generative Fill essentially takes the AI image generation capabilities we have seen explode across the internet in the last year or so and brings them into Photoshop. Give it a prompt, and it can quickly alter or composite different elements of your image with AI-generated elements. Leave the prompt blank, and it acts like a hyper-intelligent Content-Aware Fill, allowing you to remove elements or extend the frame quite efficiently. I was most impressed with its ability to remove objects and people from complex portions of the frame. This used to be a tedious task that involved a combination of selective techniques, but as you will see in the video, Nace simply makes a crude selection with the Lasso tool, clicks the Generate Fill button, and the person is removed as if they were never there in the first place. It will be quite interesting to see how this technology advances and how it changes the way photographers work with the program and in general. Check out the video above to see it in action.
I cannot see what the excitement is all about, you cannot use this and say it's your own work also you get the choice of three images that look the same that you probably don't want. Looking back at Phlearn tutorials one comes to mind the Sand Man, A lot of time was spent on getting the background right to make the image. Sorry A I will not do it for me.
