Students Help Digitally Restore Photos for Hurricane Harvey Victims

A group of students have helped restore photos for families that had their property destroyed by the storm of Hurricane Harvey.

Communication Arts high school students partnered up with volunteer organizations in Texas to repair irreplaceable photos for families that had been affected by the storm.

One man featured in the video, which comes from Adobe Students, talks about his mother Amy who passed away when he was nine years old. The images are all he has left to remember her by. Another victim has only one photo of herself and all of her siblings together as kids.

The students came together to digitally remove the damage caused to the photos, using Photoshop CC to remove water and dust damage. Next, they printed and framed the final results to provide as a gift to the respective owners. In the moving three-minute video, we see firsthand the reactions of the victims upon receiving the photos. “It was such an honor to work on that photo for you,” said one of the students. “I’m so happy it brings you so much joy.”

If you would like to work with the relief organizations behind this project, you can donate your time or money to Texas Photo Renovators, Rebuilding Together, or Recovery Houston by following the links on the Adobe website.
