Portrait photography is a popular but challenging genre that requires you to be at the top of your game in handling a camera, creating lighting setups, post-processing, posing, interacting with a subject, and more. A lot of newer portrait photographers tend to bury themselves behind the camera while they are still building confidence in their skills, but this puts a big barrier between you and your subject. And as uncomfortable as you might be when you are inexperienced, your subject is probably more apprehensive simply because being in front of a camera is tough for a lot of people.
