Portrait photographers love a medium telephoto lens with good bokeh, and for most modern lenses, good bokeh means producing creamy, featureless backgrounds that allow total focus on the subject. But what is the bokeh has a character all its own? That is what TTArtisan is aiming for with the "Bubble Bokeh" lens, and this excellent video review takes a look at if its cheap price and interesting rendering make it a winner.
Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this great video review takes a look at the TTArtisan 100mm f/2.8 Bubble Bokeh lens. At less than $200 and offering a combination of a portrait focal length and interesting "bubble" bokeh, this lens is worth a look for many photographers. It reminds me quite a bit of the bokeh of the Petzval lens I owned many years ago, albeit with less of the swirl. This can make backgrounds a bit busier; thus, you need to use the effect judiciously, but when done right, it can be a very nice artistic addition that adds a bit of liveliness and dimensionality to a portrait. Certainly, at the price, you should not expect ultra-high levels of image quality, but on the other hand, it looks decent enough, and the focus is on the effect anyway. Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.
