I rarely use gels or modifiers on my speedlites because I am lazy and in a hurry on wedding days. I just fix the color issues in post. However today I was notified that a new product was posted on Kickstarter. Meet the MagMod, a simple magnetic band that mounts to your flash allowing modifiers to be slapped on and off. Check it out, I just backed the project myself.
The project was born with Spencer (The Inventor) pondering an easier way to use gels for weddings (just what I need). He worked out some 3D models on the computer and the project was rolling. Soon after the idea to add the grid came about. There will be other 3 more attachments added once the project gets funded.
To help back the MagMod packages start at $55 (lowest price to receive the product). I really like the innovation here and creating a universal way to share modifiers with all your different speedlites.

When you said grid, did you mean the honey comb grid ?
Do I get 6 of them to create different size of spot light? Sorry I am trying to understand what I am getting LOL.
Yes, grid=MagGrid=honeycomb. The MagGel Kit is the gel slot + gel sheets (of which you get 6 color gels, not grids).
Definitely interests me! Just an idea though, what about thinner gel sets alone that the gels are molded and not removable to reduce thickness but still have enough space to let them breath and not burn.
I would be interested in Full, 1/2, 1/4 CTO, CTB, and Tough Plusgreen.
The colors that come with the kit are fun but for daily work I need CT0, CTB, and Florescent white balance and I will buy them all! =D
Thanks for the thoughts Todd! If we did individually molded gels, it would significantly increase their cost and complexity. Ideally I'd love individually magnetic gels, but the size of the magnets would be prohibitive to stacking and modularity.
Included in each MagGel kit are the following 6 gels:
-Full, 1/2 and 1/4 CTO, 1/2 CTB, and one extra gel which will be determined via Kickstarter vote! Because we also reached our $80k stretch goal, a Tough Opal Frost (Kickstarter exclusive) will also be included in to each kit. We're excited to see what the final vote will be...I'm leaning towards the Tough Plusgreen myself...maybe you could help sway the vote?
Yikes!! Tough Opal Frost over Tough Plusgreen! You DEFINITELY have my vote on the Plusgreen!!! Who's idea what that ha ha! How do I vote? =D
Sounds really good!!!! I missed the link and will go put myself down for this! Boom!
Who knows what else might be included by the end of the campaign, but based on my polling pre-campaign (~800 surveys), a very very very small percentage said they wanted Plusgreen...I guess we're in the minority :/
I went with the Double but it did not give me the option of adding the creative gel kit ($15). How would I add that? I was hoping it was going to give me a add on window later...
You can add them by simply increasing your pledge amount ($15 for Creative gel set, $25 per MagGrid). At the end of the campaign we will collect all of your data to make sure you get exactly what you intended. It'll be a piece of cake for you :)
I went with the double but missed the add on part. Is it still possible to add on the extra creative gel kit?

I just ordered the double kit.... can't wait to get it. Will solve a lot of my issues. And people, it's worth it to look professional and not be gaffer taping your gels on your lights.....
Thanks MarcBM! Appearance does matter, but we think function over form is even more important. But I guess you can finally have your cake and eat it too!
