Droning in the Snow: 'Alpine Adventures' Is Some Next Level Scenery

After browsing through Vimeo a bit, I was mesmerized by one of the aerial videos I saw. Owning and flying a drone for quite some time myself, I look to create unique aerial photography and smooth aerial video. One thing I have realized is how important location can be, and while being stuck in New Jersey and not traveling too far away, I think I have been abe to capture some pretty cool things around me. After watching this video that Joshua Cowan created, I am absolutely blown away by the content he has created from his trip to Europe. It is videos like this that inspire me to keep flying and looking for new things to create.

I would hope this video is an inspiration to many people, where they can realize that Cowan took the time to find these locations, get there, and shoot them the way he did. From the times of day to the locations he traveled, this has to be one of the most scenic aerial videos I have ever seen to date. I think the video is also edited really well, with the scaling, the sounds, and the style of shots; everything about it makes me want to go make something this memorable. One thing that has bugged me in the past is how people just look at an image or video and think it is great but don't realize what goes into it. As an aerial photographer myself, I can assure you that I spend hours finding certain locations to shoot, I travel to them in different weather to get the photos I want, make sure I am there at specific times to get my ideal light and from that all, I have one thing to say. I love what I can create from it. To see other people taking to time to create content like this is an awesome thing and a big reason why I am sharing this today.

Below are some of photos I have shot around New Jersey during a few snow storms we have had. I feel like the scenery is nowhere near as good as it is in Joshua's video, but hey, I will get myself out to a beautiful location soon enough. These shots were almost as planned as you could get them to be, they required plenty of driving on roads that weren't so good, but luckily I had the day off to go on a shooting frenzy and I made it around safely. My original plan was to continue my aerial series when I came up to take these photos, however when I was out shooting the winds were really blowing and my drone was having a tough time in the air. I decided to shoot within the area instead of traveling all over the place on the bad roads. By the time I was done shooting, the sun was coming back out which is a "no" for a lot of my aerials, so I headed home to wrap things up and see what I got. Overall, I have to say it doesn't really look like New Jersey which is cool, that was the vibe I was going for with the snow and trees. The main thing here is the effort that went into shooting it all, getting out there in the weather, with the right light, before the snow had fallen off the trees. So from this, I encourage everyone to put there all into the work they do to create something that matters to you. Photography is great, but the meaning behind it is what makes it so special.

I am a huge nerd when it comes to drones and have been flying for over 4 years. I enjoy doing aerial photography as my personal work but shoot tons of video for work as well. I am a part of Simply Visual Productions and Simply Sounds, working my way into an industry I couldn't be happier to be a part of.

Wow

Simply gorgeous. Love the shots of running water in the cavern. Only possible with drones. Shots nearly impossible 10 years ago.

Wow, beautiful. How did you do the shoot following the guy walking on the lake at 0:26? Is your drone able to zoom while filming? looks incredible. Thank you

Looks to be a scale out while moving forward. He does a few of them in the video and I have to say they work quite well!

if you'd bother reading the article as well, you'd understand that this is actually not his video. only the pictures.

Good article, nice images and strong video. Thanks!

Mind blowing....so cinematic!

That zoom dolly at 00:26, whew...great sound design too. The sound design is impeccable.
