Exploring the Unknown: Thoughts of an Aerial Photographer

Exploring the Unknown: Thoughts of an Aerial Photographer

Flying a drone is a feeling that can be hard to describe. However, the photos and videos people are able to achieve using these tools are absolutely amazing and can have people staring at their screens for quite a while.

Being able to relate to this unknown, yet incredible feeling I get when I drone, I thought it would be interesting to start figuring out what inspires other aerial photographers to capture the things they do. Over the years, I have connected with so many talented people who share the same passion as me. Just recently, I had a chance to get in touch with Pierce Gainey, an aerial photographer/drone dude, to talk about how flying and shooting makes him feel.

I usually don’t know what to expect when I am shooting the ocean as it can change so quickly. Sometimes the winds will pick up or the tide goes out or in and the water color changes and things like that. It's always a challenge shooting over water and that’s the thrill of it too. You have to learn how to adapt and change so your photos and videos will mimic what you are seeing with your natural eye. I love showcasing this beautiful ocean and hope to be able to travel more to many great beaches and ocean and showcase its beauty from my drone.

Drones give a unique perspective and can make an ordinary view from the ground look like an extraordinary view from the sky! I used to get jealous of birds since they always got this view, but my drone has helped make this view possible for me. As I continue to search for blue water, serene beaches and beautiful spots, I will always be in awe of this spectacular world and all of its beauty. Go out and enjoy some nature!

I have been following Gainey for over three years now and am still a huge fan of the work he puts out. His page may be the most peaceful blue you've seen in a while and his work speaks for itself. In a way, I feel like I can also really relate to him as he searches for more to shoot over the blue waters. Here I am in New Jersey, searching for hidden gems as much as I can since our water isn't as blue. Day after day, we go out to find new locations or return to the same locations to make new creations.

Even more importantly than some of the work we see above, Gainey has a drive to continue what he is already doing and I look forward to seeing what else he will achieve. There are few people chasing this passion but the ones who are stand out more and more as the years go on.

I am a huge nerd when it comes to drones and have been flying for over 4 years. I enjoy doing aerial photography as my personal work but shoot tons of video for work as well. I am a part of Simply Visual Productions and Simply Sounds, working my way into an industry I couldn't be happier to be a part of.

So what are the thoughts of an aerial photographer? Except that drones give unique perspective and ocean color changes.

Useless drivel. Gimme a break
