Is GoPro's Karma a Complete Flop? In-Depth Review and Comparision with DJI Mavic Pro

When GoPro first announced the new Karma drone, many of us were excited and had high hopes for this new drone. Right after that, DJI announced their compact Mavic Pro drone, creating even more hype and confusion for those who were interested in buying a drone, myself included. Which one should I get?

YouTube channel iPhonedo is here with a complete, in-depth review of the GoPro Karma Drone and that compares it side-by-side with the DJI Mavic. Straight away, he lets you know of his opinion on the new Karma, which is not very good. After watching the review, I think my choice is pretty clear between the two drones. There are a few things I like about the Karma, like the handheld grip and the controller with its own screen, which means I don't need to use my phone or another device as the screen. But I do not really like how long it takes to get going with the Karma controller.

If you were interested in the Karma Grip Ultra that is included with the drone, there is a review of the handheld grip toward the end of the video as well as a comparison with the DJI Osmo Mobile. After watching this review, what are your thoughts of the GoPro Karma? Is their first drone a complete miss? If you have first-hand experience, let us know your own thoughts, too.

Above is an in-depth review of the DJI Mavic Pro. Which drone will you be getting after watching these reviews?

I may trade my Inspire for a Mavic...only because travelling with a large drone is a real drag and I'm always on the go.

EDIT*

Pre-Ordered a Mavic early this morning....couldn't find any justification with my current rig that works around the ultimate portability and the same'ish image quality to the Phantom 4.

I will love to have either of these. I don't care which one but hopefully the mavic

Hilarious video but a little long winded. After watching this there's no way i'd buy a Karma or their handheld stabilizer.

haha! That guy is a crack up every time he puts out a video! I Preordered the Mavic about a month ago but who know's when that little sucker will show up. I'm keeping my Inspire regardless.

Preordered the Mavic a few days after the announcement and it showed up yesterday! I also have the Inspire but I'm afraid it's going to sit at home more often than not now.

I'm super jealous but stoked for ya. And yeah agreed about the Inspire. Two different birds but great for certain needs. The X5/45mm is still on my wish list regardless. Have a great time flying your new Mavic.

if anyone find a RAW photo comparison from both, or some sample files, please let us know

Oh man, this video is making serious rounds all over! I'm not one to support the usual online hysteria but DAMN... looking at Karma next to Mavic in this context it's proving exactly what many of us suspected - don't be a guinea pig for GoPro. GoPro's pitch of "portability", ease of use, etc. really looks like a silly marketing garbage next to DJI. Yeah, this killed it for me, no question about it.

Agreed, Mavic here I come!

That guys intro had me laughing out loud at work (oops!). Will definitely have to watch the rest at home.

So disappointing ..smh

doesn't make the karmas shortcomings less real.

Does he?

Same dude posted an OSMO Mobile review that clearly- now that we know it seems to have issues interacting with OIS equipped phones- had stabilisation added in post. Very pro DJI, but as someone else mentioned- if the Karma has issues, it has issues.

I rather go for the GoPro. Buying the Mavic is buying a crappy camera that is stuck to the drone forever, and Im flying for quality in images

I watched this video and as a Karma owner I couldn't stand the way he portrayed Karma. He does a great job at his DJI propaganda though. I actually went out to fly my Karma drone right after because he got me thinking, "Maybe everything that I think I've been experiencing with this drone is wrong". Nope, karma is stable, flies great, easy to land (BTW my six year old can fly Karma with ease), the stabilizer and Grip are awesome...WTF? And then it became clear, this is a DJI review.

If all you want is 20-30 minutes of aerial footage both drones work fine but Mavic does has significantly more tech. If you buy Mavic, you get Mavic. That's it. If you want a controller, it's extra. If you want to view what you are filming, you have to use your phone or tablet (which can only get about 300-500 nits brightness on max which is a huge battery killer). If you want a backpack case, it's extra. No handheld stabilizer because the camera is permanently fixed to the Mavic.

With Karma bundle you get: GoPro camera, Stabilizer, Controller with 900 nits brightness, Hand held Grip, Mounting Ring which lets you mount the stabilizer to just about any GoPro mount, Backpack carry case with GoPro shoulder mount, and you get the drone.

Mavic is a better drone, but with Karma you just get so much more for your money. My Karma drone flies great and is a blast. I honestly don't have any of the issues that I saw in this video. The Stabilizer and Grip get amazing shots. If you already have all of the accessories and are just looking for a new drone to buy, get Mavic. I believe you only have to wait another 7-8 weeks for delivery if you order today. Nobody is saying the Karma drone is better than Mavic. If you want a complete system, however, Karma is a great choice. Only DJI fanboys are going out of their way to try and knock Karma.

Aaaaand now it's recallled... ouch, what a flop....

Much to my surprise.....my Mavic ordered a month ago has arrived...
