Before and After Shots From 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Reveal the Power of Postproduction

If you have not yet seen "Mad Max: Fury Road," I highly recommend seeing the film in theatres while you still can. The combination of art and action brings a rare addition to the big blockbuster-filled summer. These before-and-after shots will give you an idea of the true creativity behind the movie's polarizing set pieces and live-action stunts combined with brilliant post-processing.

Directed by the incredible George Miller, who created and directed the first three films, had quite the challenge getting this movie off the ground. With over 12 years in the making, including many complex story arcs, Miller finally created a piece of cinema that many are very proud to have been a part of. With a rating of 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it's sure to bring more fans down the road. The success of the film was even doubted by its own road warrior Tom Hardy, but he publicly apologized to Miller for going against his direction during production. Filming over 450 hours of footage to create a 120 minute movie, some could see the frustration in not fully comprehending the story's legacy to the original films and Miller's name.

The big portion of shooting took place during a six-month period in the Namibian desert, with additional shooting in Sydney, bringing hours of footage as firepower going into postproduction. With the help of Director of Photography John Seale, the crew was able to create impressive practical stunts in tandem with multiple digital camera angles. With over 150 vehicles, the final piece was perfection.

Even though the movie was still heavy on the special effects, it was the way the film was shot and the incredible combination of post-processing and live-action that makes "Fury Road" so visually engaging. Check out the comparison shots below.
