Take A Walk Through A Commercial Photography Studio

This week we are filming 5 days of fashion, beauty, test, and portrait looks with Michael Woloszynowicz from Vibrant Shot Photography. Michael is a Toronto based photographer and high end retoucher creating an in-depth Pro Tutorial with PRO EDU that will be available on sale in the Fstoppers store this summer.

This walk through was filmed during the second day of the High-End Fashion Portraiture and Retouching tutorial with PRO EDU. High-End Fashion Portraiture and Retouching is aimed at taking your fashion, beauty, and portrait photography to the next level. In this course we’ll show you how to avoid common mistakes that photographers often make and guide you through the entire image creation process beginning at the lighting and set setup stage, all the way through to the retouched images in Photoshop. Throughout the lessons we’ll explore multiple lighting scenarios, from basic one light configurations, to complex multi-light situations to help you achieve high quality source files to perform your retouching on. We’ll cover retouching starting at image selection and discuss what you and your clients will be looking for in a fashion or portrait image, as well as showing you how to get the most out of your raw files. Once we dive into Photoshop, we’ll take you through the tools and techniques that you need to know to create beautifully textured skin, polished details and pleasing tones. The tutorial will cover:

  •  Choosing the right gear for your budget, insurance and other business considerations
  • Finding and choosing a great studio space
  • Full length fashion photography and model testing
  • Model/fashion portraiture and shallow DOF studio portraits
  • Beauty portraiture
  • Finding great models and working with agencies
  • Building your creative team and avoiding pitfalls
  • Tips for high quality editorials, getting your work published and sources of income
  • Ad quality start-to-finish post production of 4 photos

This tutorial will be available in the Fstoppers store this summer. If you would like to get access to this tutorial before the general public and get an exclusive discount, please e-mail me at gary@proedu.com with the subject Vibrant Shot.

This is a really lovely place ! I wish I could have a place like this on my own !
( but I spend way too much time shooting on locations than studio ... )

It's like an episode of MTV: Cribs...photographers edition Such an awesome space.

Love it. Next time I am in STL visiting I would love to come by and check it out in person. Beautiful space!

This makes me want to start taking on more studio work again. Beautiful space!

All I wanted was a studio with a brick wall and reclaimed wood, now I want big old metal as well :(

Super nice space. Unfortunately for me, something like that in Chelsea or Soho would run $10,000-20,000/month.

At LEAST.

If you or someone is looking, I'm leaving a space now that I sublet from a design firm. 5,000 square feet in Chelsea with 11' ceiling. New price is ~$22,000. Though the elevator is slow and the light is good in just one spot.

I need this space. Instead, i have a tiny box i call home. #NYC

Even in Saint Louis it has got to cost some coin to own and/or rent a place that big....I can't imagine how much in NYC. While NYC may be tops for networking, it seems cost prohibitive for someone up-and-coming to shoot in a place like this and draw enough business to afford it.

This place is better than my apartment.

What an amazing space.

I saw a similar video (might have been posted here at some stage actually) about a stock photographer who had what seemed like a billion dollars in profoto gear.

This is not in the same budget but nonetheless just as impressive. Exceptional setup

ps. love how you apologize for the "mess". Where i was watching the video thinking - "god that's one clean studio!"

It was probably this video....Yuri makes us all feel like poor souls :) http://fstoppers.com/studio/yuri-arcurs-gives-tour-his-lavish-studio-7421

I like how he says at the beginning what if you had an endless budget to build the perfect studio...and that's exactly what he did.

Wow i hope one day i can have a studio like this one!! Good job guys keep up the good work.

WOW! That studio looks great! I wonder if they rent it out? I'm in STL and would love to shoot there! Unfortunately the site is blocked at work :\

Thanks Christian. Yeah we rent it out. Hit me up if you are interested.

I love Lensrentals as much as the next person, but did they rent a bunch of equipment just to show off how much equipment they have?

Emphasis on renting gear as needed to keep production costs down.

porn music?

One day... I shall have a studio like this... One day in the next 2000 years.
