'INPUT/OUTPUT' Is a Fun New Short That Holds Surprises in Every Frame

They say that the ability to still be surprised is the key to happiness. It's growing knowledge of the world around us that informs our expectations of behaviors of all kinds of entities that in turn ruins the surprise in our lives. It's the reason that we're not interested in our boring childhood toys. And it's the reason that it's so easy to stay glued to shorts like the Vimeo Staff Pick, "INPUT/OUTPUT," which juices our bored minds with just enough excitement and surprise to, at the very least, smile on the inside.

Shot by Terri Timely (a "collaboration of two people, Corey Creasey and Ian Kibbey"), "INPUT/OUTPUT" plays with common scenes in everyday life, adding and completely changing the visual elements to shift the expected "output" reaction of an "input" action (in one scene, for example, a man hammers a nail into wood, but the nail relentlessly pops right back up).

While Terri Timely doesn't have much of a Vimeo presence, the duo isn't unfamiliar with high-production and big-ticket commercial projects that you undoubtedly know, each shot with the key elements of simplicity and surprise. Most recently added to their portfolio are the string of Geico's short, action-halting "You Can't Skip These Ads" and the endlessly fun "Swipe for a New Boyfriend" ad for Oscar Mayer's Sizzl app (a dating app where "Must Love Bacon" is the starting requirement). It's not hard to get lost in the ingenious and expectation-smashing clips on Terri Timely's website. Do yourself a favor and save at least a few for Monday.

This is the kind of stuff that I talk myself out of for being "silly' or without purpose. Yet, it makes me smile. Congratulations to all involved for not letting your "adult" side win out.

Great stuff! Thanks for writing

Love this, and the fact that it demonstrates several executions of a theme. Very creative.
