Compositing is one of the most powerful techniques for creating images that would otherwise be dangerous or impossible to get in one shot. And with the proper technique, creating effective composites is not that difficult. This fantastic video tutorial will show you both how to shoot and edit a convincing composite using Photoshop.
Coming to you from our good friend, Pye Jirsa, with Adorama TV, this excellent video tutorial will show you how to shoot and edit a simple composite. As you can see, in this case, Jirsa chooses to use a composite because he wants to shoot the couple seaside with waves crashing over the rocks, but to do so in one take would be dangerous or at least get the couple awfully wet! One thing that is absolutely crucial for making your life far easier when it comes time to edit is using a tripod. Without it, you may (inadvertently) change your framing between the shot, and this can require careful editing to fix in post. On the other hand, with a tripod, you get the exact same perspective every shot, and it becomes a simple matter of masking in the subject where you need to. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Jirsa.
