It is pretty amazing just how much you can accomplish in post-processing software nowadays, but there is something particularly satisfying about creating an image that looks like it took lots of Photoshop work entirely in camera. This excellent video tutorial will show you how to recreate this fascinating day and night image all in camera.
Coming to you from our friends over at SLR Lounge, this awesome tutorial will show you how to create an interesting day and night split image entirely in camera. While you can certainly create this sort of effect in Photoshop, I'm a big fan of learning how to do it in camera for two reasons: first, it can potentially cut down your post-processing time by quite a lot. Second, when you have to envision and implement complex and creative lighting and composition scenarios, it really challenges your technical skills, and the strides you make will pay off quite a bit in your future work. Personally, I also simply think it is a lot of fun. You won't need a lot of equipment for this either: an ND filter and a couple of speedlights should do the trick. Check out the video above to see just how the team accomplished the shot.
