Phlearn Presents Simple Tips for Editing Children's Photos

Last week, we covered my all-time favorite tip for creating expressive children’s portraits outdoors this fall. As a follow-up, in this short video, Photoshop master Aaron Nace from Phlearn takes us through simple techniques for editing photos of children in Photoshop. His advice centers on drawing the focus to the eyes and face by adding a vignette, enhancing eyes, and warming skin tones.

These simple techniques can be quickly applied to any portrait. I personally love his method of adding a vignette, as it’s fast, gives you a lot of control, and lends itself to creating asymmetric vignettes to add more interest to your portraits. His second tip demonstrates a quick way to make subtle alterations to skin tones using Photoshop’s color filters. Finally, Nace goes through some quick methods for enhancing eyes by increasing brightness, contrast, and adding a pop of color.

As with any Photoshop technique, there is often more than one way to accomplish the same effect. The best part about these editing techniques is that they are non-destructive, so it’s easy to adjust their strength and toggle them on and off with ease. Nace has selected very easy-to-learn and fast editing techniques that will appeal to beginner and experienced editors alike.
