This image was taken during an economic downturn and as part of a failed art project. Part political (note the faded flag) and part humor (note the Crocs), the photo became the symbol of despair that lived in the hearts of many during this time.

I think images of homeless people without exploring or telling their story is not seeing the humanity. You're seeing them as a prop/symbol not a human. Also I see no humor in the crocs...
