1.95 - "Needs Work"

This challenge coincided with my trip to Acadia National Park. I had the goal or project of getting 2-3 portfolio worthy images. Hopefully I have succeeded. This shot is from downtown Bar Harbor. This "tall ship" takes people around the bay. I thought it would be a great subject. This was after it's last voyage of the day. The challenge here was to make an interesting image using the ship. The rocks on the beach made for something to anchor the foreground and kind of creates some leading lines to the ship. It's also more interesting to me than just a shot of a boat. I used 3 images here for focus stacking since I was so close to the rocks. There was a lot of fog/clouds on this evening which created a very moody atmosphere.

Hi there, I am not a landscape photographer, but just from a casual perspective this image feels as if it’s composed as if the rocks are the main subject and the ship is just background. The majority of the image is the rocks. Don’t get me wrong, everything looks beautiful, but this image gives me the impression that you wanted to take a landscape including the beautiful rocks and you also wanted to take a picture of the boat… but you couldn’t decide which one you wanted more.
If you look at the composition, only 1/5 to a quarter of your image is dedicated to the ship and the dock in the sky.

75% of your image is rocks and water. That’s great, if what you’re trying to show off as the rocks and water. But honestly, I wish I could see more of that ship.

I still gave it a 3 though. This would be the greatest landscape photo I ever took. 😅

Thanks! I was really trying to show off both. So I guess it worked. All I had with me was a wide angle lens and I didn’t want a shot of just the boat by itself. I wanted a shot of the boat but felt I needed something else to make a more interesting image which I feel like I accomplished!
