The thrill of remote shooting, for me, is the anticipation of seeing what has been captured. It's one of the closest things to shooting with film, in the sense that you don't know immediately what you've got.
My setup isn't (yet) sophisticated enough to transmit the remote images live. I'm generally shooting with a Nikon D4 + Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 + WT-5 and a Nikon D5 + Nikon 200-400 f/4 + WT-5. The remote is either a D3s or D500 with 24mm, depending on the space around the goal. I'm using Pocket Wizards on the 70-200 body plus the behind-the-goal-camera.
This shot had more energy and impact than the image I took from the touchline which triggered it. In this image, Louise Quinn of Ireland and Hannah Hampton (England GK) are in action during a UEFA Women's Euro 2025 Qualifying Group A3 game. Republic of Ireland W v England Women in the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland on 9 April 2024.
