2.25 - "Needs Work"

Tadej Pogačar, currently the best road cyclist in the world during Giro d Italia individual time trial. Originaly planned really epic photo location was ruined with some advertising banners just hours before competition started so I had to find alternative spot. All roads were already closed, walking was the only way to move. Luckily I knew this location which was quite far but not too far away. Tadej was last rider and whole event lasted a few hours so I had some opportunity to test shoot and capture other riders but as a fellow Slovenian I was on a hunt for him. The location was just below some little hill and there is still slight downslope so the speed of riders was just scary insane. Looking through viewfinder was not efficient as I was too late every time and frame rate (6fps) of camera was not enough to get even two frames of any rider’s bicycle in a frame. So the strategy was to press the button on a remote trigger when a rider hit an imaginary line on the road. Still I missed many riders but with more and more practise and a bit of luck I got him. To be honest I was screaming of joy when I saw photo on a camera’s back screen, luckily no one was close enough to hear me.
Canon 5Dmk3, on tripod remotely triggered, lens 50mm 1.8, manual focus prefocused, 1/8000.

P.S: I used this photo also for month May of my roadcycling.photos calendar 2025.
