One of the most exciting nights of my life began when I stood on my doorstep and saw the aurora swirling overhead. I didn't have to get on a plane, or a boat, or trek through remote wilderness to see the most amazing show on earth, all I had to do was point and shoot.

I captured this image of the northern lights over Marble Hill Strand, in Donegal, Ireland in October 2024. Nikon D5 and 24mm at f/2.8, 5 sec exposure at ISO 500. Straight out of camera the colours were amazing and I did minimal editing to adjust levels, sharpen and crop the image. Clearly visible to the naked eye and this time I got my dream photos.
