Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, California. Famous place where this rare phenomenon of moving stones happens. This photo was taken with my Nikon D850 with the 28-30 mm, f2.8, Tamron lens. That night I was alone and uncommunicative as there is no reception for at least 3 hours away. When photographing the stones with the Milky Way in the background I notice a red hue in the sky but I did not know what it was. After a while the hue intensified and looking at the camera screen, my photos were coming out completely red. I thought, it looks like an aurora borealis, but I couldn’t believe it as it was happening in California. Not having access to phone or internet until the next morning when I drove back to Furnace Creek, that is when I got a call from my dad saying to me, “did you see the aurora?”, I asked, how did you know that there was an aurora in the middle of the dessert? That´s when he told that there was a strange aurora activity and it was visible in many parts of the US. This experience was so unreal for me as being out of reach from any information and not knowing what was actually was happening, it is a strange feeling, specially being out there in the middle of nowhere by myself.
