Whenever I go to this pier in Oceanside, CA, I look for interesting people doing what they love, fishing. I've seen this man on several occasions in the past years.
I haven't been back since the start of the pandemic until this weekend. I was thinking of him and several other regulars and hoping for the best. I found him in his regular fishing spot and he looked exactly the same as when I last saw him...down to the same hat.
I managed to get several portraits that captured his essence, that of a hard-working and dedicated fisherman.

My camera here was a Canon 6D and a Canon 70-200 L lens. I had a good light that day, overcast, so there wasn't any difficulties in editing with the help of Topaz. When editing, I worked on every detail in the portrait. I tried to maintain his natural skin color which is important to me. The pier on which this was taken is always crowded so it's not too difficult to blend in with the crowd and capture natural, relaxed portraits of people. In this case, I was already shooting him from a distance and when he happened to look over, I clicked the shutter so got direct eye contact. I recently heard that he won Fisherman of the Year in the town.
