I photographed Dinesh during the Kumbh Mela pilgrimage in India, where 600 million people traveled from across India to bathe in the river Ganges. India’s holy men or ‘babas’ are drawn to the spiritual significance of this festival. I encountered Dinesh in the backstreets of Varanasi, away from the crowds and isolated from the chaos of Kumbh Mela.
Tech: I photographed Dinesh with a Nikon D800 and 24-70mm lens, against a dark backdrop. I used a strobe with a mid-sized Octabox, camera right, as the main light source.
