Baba Damaru
I photographed Damaru during the Kumbh Mela pilgrimage in India, where 600 million people traveled from across India to bathe in the river Ganges. India’s holy men or ‘babas’ are drawn to the spiritual significance of this festival. I encountered Damaru on the banks of the Ganges away from the crowds in Varanasi, where he spent his morning and evenings meditating.
Tech: I photograped Damaru with a Nikon D800 and 24-70mm lens. I used a mid-sized Octabox with one light source, camera right to help fill in some of the shadows on Damaru's face.
