I was on a solo trip to NYC and went on a ferry ride to go see something. Even though it was a chilly, cloudy day, there were a lot of people there. The girl in this photo was there with her parents and I spoke with her dad a little. I believe they were from the UK. I found the cloudy day, the girl's hair/makeup, and the look on her face as she watched the scenery go past the window all combined to make a really interesting photo. She was a photographer herself - That is a camera strap around her neck. I had to hurry to get this photo because I wanted to capture it before she knew what I was doing so I could get her candid expression.

I could not find the original of this photo. I believe it was taken with a Sony A99ii. I did some adjustments in Lightroom including some cropping to make her gaze more prominent. The exposure wasn't the best as I was hurrying to take the picture. I adjusted the exposure and some of the color settings, as well as the shadows. The water (and shoreline) you see out the window was not visible in the copy that I found. I did not want to make too many changes because I was afraid it would detract from the gloominess that I remember this day being.

I like the window light coming in on her left side. You captured a wonderful candid, my favorite type of portrait.
