Relaxing Child -- The photo captures a toddler in her natural play-state environment as she has her bunny pillows and stuffed bunny and a picture book. The light from overcast skies dribbles in and provides a gradient glow across the child's face and the self-composed set.
Photographer recognized the opportunity for a memorable shot and quickly grabbed camera. No flash -- just natural lighting from window. Photo was taken in the photographer's home. The challenge was to get the image before the child lost her patience and to maintain the relaxed pose. Needless to say, a child's ability to be still and calm for a photo shoot is time limited. Photo was shot in color and cropped and converted to b&w. I felt the b&w brought out more of the light gradient fall-off from the window and brought out the gentle curvature of childs face, arm, and hand. The color version, while very pretty, seemed to draw the viewer's eye from the child.
