This is a portrait of Lee Marmon (1925-2021) a photographer from the Laguna Pueblo in New Mexico. I had purchased one of his prints entitled 'Eagle Dancers' in 2017 and called him to ask if I could compliment his print with a portrait of him. Luckily he agreed and I took this image in his small (12' x12') shed he used for printing. The shot was taken with an Olympus OM-2 and an on camera flash modified with a MagMod Magsphere aimed straight up bouncing off the white ceiling.
Given his age he was still very gregarious and engaging and I felt fortunate to have had time with him.
A more complete history of his photographic career can be found at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Marmon.
As a 'local' he had an inside track to document life in the Pueblo where he lived capturing a way of life that most outsiders never experienced. His catalogue has been archived at the University of New Mexico.
