On the early morning of December 29th, 2024, this female Leopard had left her cub in the lair some 2km from the waterhole. She walked all that distance to the waterhole in the Auob river bed in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa. Being mid summer she spent 15 minutes at the waterhole drinking intermittently. Every so often she would look up and look aroung to check for any threats in close proximity, typically lions. After drinking a lot of water she climbed onto the water feeder pipe housing and then leapt off onto dry ground so as not to get her feet wet. To capture this shot and numerous others of her in midair i used the continious high mode set on 10 frames per second on the Fujifilm XT5 with the Fujinon 400mm (600mm 35mm equivalent) 1/1600s, ISO 800, f5.6. The auto focus was precise on all shots. The rising sun was behind the subject resulting in a very bright background and darker subject. This was corrected in LRC. A stunning carnivore in a stunning environment.
