This image was taken from Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands, just before golden hour, as the evening fog began sweeping into San Francisco Bay. Rather than fight the haze, I leaned into it — using the fog as both subject and atmosphere.
I shot this with the Sony A7CR and the Tamron 50-400mm lens, zoomed in to 345mm. Exposure settings were 1/500 sec at f/6.3, ISO 100. The long focal length helped isolate the bridge’s upper span, allowing the iconic orange-red structure to emerge as a delicate line through the diffused mist.
The softness wasn’t added — it was given by nature. I made minimal post-processing adjustments to preserve that mood, enhancing just enough contrast on the bridge to create visual tension while keeping the surrounding fog smooth and untouched.
