On a foggy autumn morning at Lake Chabot, I came across this gnarled tree cloaked in dew and quiet. The mist softened everything — colors, edges, even the forest floor — turning the grove into something out of a fairytale. The light filtered gently through the canopy, creating just enough contrast to reveal the tree’s beautiful, chaotic form.
I shot this handheld with the Sony A7R V and the 24-70mm GM II lens at 27mm, f/8, 1/10 sec, ISO 100. The conditions were challenging — low light, handheld, and a scene that could easily become muddy or flat. I kept the exposure conservative and relied on careful post-processing to bring out just enough contrast and texture in the trunk and moss, while keeping the background soft and atmospheric.
