My day to day is commercial work, creating ads and working within the strict confines of brand identity, and my passion is wildlife photography where setups and composition is a happenstance luxury, so when my gf wanted me to go to a tall ship festival, even though we were in the middle of a rain storm, I figured I'd make it interesting to me as well.
I'd recently gotten a 7artisans 10mm, but hadn't really had much use for it. So I slapped it on my old A7RII (which is on its last legs) and went to check out old sail ships.
When we arrived it had just stopped raining and the sun was peaking out, which provided stellar lighting and when I got a chance to get on deck of one of the larger vessels I instantly knew where the 10mm would shine. I'm really happy with how the image turned out. The slight offset of the rope, the sun's glow on the sail and how the ropes of the mast in the background spread out, dividing what's left of the storm and the last bits of summer.
I'm really happy with how the shot turned out and this shot, I feel, is a testament to gear not being as important as we might think. A $100 lens on a 10 year old camera works just fine, given the right opportunity.
