During a rare warm winter day in West Michigan, the sun poked through the clouds for a moment as I was driving home from a day working in the field. This weathered wooden factory door recessed within a brick arch immediately caught my eye due to its vivid deep red color against the brick. The contrast between the warm brick, aged timber, and advancing shadow emphasizes both the structure’s resilience and its quiet abandonment, offering a study in time, texture, and permanence.
Thankfully I had my camera (5D Mk IV, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM) in my work truck and quickly spun around to snap this photo from within my work vehicle with just 30 seconds or so before the sunlight went back behind the clouds.
