Let's be honest from the get go:
This photo is the outcome of a relatively, heavily edited original photo.
There were several distractions in the scenery on the original shot.
I also cloned the remains of the dock to further enhance symmetry (who would design an asymmetric dock ? for real peeps!).
Does "heavy" editing make it less of a photo ? I don't think so.

This is split centre and replicated on one side?
yes. the original remains were a little... asymmetric and I couldn't stand seeing it :D
Personally I think in a pano would really make it pop!!!
