The photo that almost never happened.

The day began in Sorrento, Italy, wandering through narrow streets and admiring the craftsmanship of local artisans. Near sunset, we gathered at a meeting point to take a shuttle four miles south to a scenic overlook. One couple never arrived, and the driver hesitated to leave without them. Time slipped away as a storm rolled in, threatening to erase the sunset entirely.

At last, with no time to spare, we departed… only to sit in traffic, watching an incredible sunset unfold before the storm through the shuttle’s dusty windows. By the time we reached the overlook, the storm was upon us. I managed just three frames before the rain forced us to stop.

Certain the show was over, we took shelter with snacks and waited, hoping for one last break in the clouds. Then the storm cleared the horizon. Purple and orange ignited the sky as the last light faded and the lights of Capri began to glow. In those final moments, with darkness settling in, I captured this image.
