Architecture speaks most clearly when it is allowed to speak alone. This image of a mid-century residential building in Royan, France, pursues a question that runs through much of my photographic work: what remains of a building when everything incidental — people, traffic, weather, noise — is removed, and only its form and color are left to communicate?The answer, in this case, is something close to a painting. A salmon-pink façade suspended against a flat cerulean sky, its geometry precise, its symmetry almost too composed to be accidental. Almost.
