Desert Cactus. Saw what I think is a type of barrel cactus while hiking the Apache Washhead Trail at sunset outside of Phoenix, AZ in March of 2026. Took this top-down view of the plant, appreciating the abstract view of the geometry of the leaves. Once in Lightroom, I unexposed the ground and cranked up the vibrance the plant. I liked how the sunlight still added a small highlight from the side. Taken with a Nikon Z8 and a Tamron 16-30mm f/2.8. 24mm, 1/500sec, f/8 at ISO5600.

This is fantastic. It would have taken a long time for me to figure out this was a cactus. The colors don’t look natural, but they don’t look over saturated either.

wow would have never known its a cactus if you didn't mention it... creative
