This image is of the rock formations at the Giants Causeway in Bushmills Ireland. I took it just before sunset to bring out golden-hour light and enhance the subtle texture of the slabs. Each formation represents the top of a long basalt column. I wanted to capture the unusual nature of this World Heritage site, but from a different viewpoint. I took this with a Nikon Z6ii at 30 mm on a 24-70 mm lens. I shot very low and at f 20, hoping to compress the large formations and achieve a deep focal range. With the extremely low-angle light, I wanted to create a high-contrast effect between the glints of light and the deep shadows between the uneven surfaces. I shot at ISO 140 and hand-held at 1/30, hoping to get as sharp details as I could in hopes of being able to enlarge the image substantially to make a strong impact.

Hi Steve, I’m quite shocked that this hasn’t received a higher rating. For me, this is a great image for a print.

I really appreciate your words. It took some time, but I've stopped taking the contest ratings seriously. Lots of amazing work was submitted, and got similar numbers
