I have been to this location dozens of times over the years chasing conditions like the ones I got on this day but never getting them. This was one of the very first places we went as a couple, so when it came time to pop the big question I couldn’t think of a better place then Mount rainier. Unlike all the other times that I have been here where I was trying to time amazing conditions this time I was trying to play it safe. I picked a day that the forecast said it would be clear out so I didn’t have to worry about clouds potentially covering the mountain. All I really wanted was flowers in the foreground and Mount rainier in the back. I pulled the trigger on coming up here a little early because the forecast was predicting clear skies and I knew there was some heather blooming and although I was hoping for fields of lupin I didn’t want to risk the weather not corporating being limited to coming here only on a weekend. Leading up to the day I imagined the clear day turning to “impossible” conditions of an inversion with lenticular clouds above the mountain as golden light illuminated the clouds something “knew” I wouldn’t get. We arrive at location and to my surprise we were greeted with low clouds not clear skies but they were around the base of the mountain so no worries. As we ascended I kept looking back at the mountain thinking one thing “those clouds better not start covering the mountain”. We get to the spot and of course the clouds had raised and now were completely covering the mountain “just my luck” I thought. I set up my camera and focus stack the flowers and started playing the waiting game as I was kinda freaking out on the inside. After waiting for a while I decided now was the time told my girlfriend to stand at a particular spot and that “I wanted to get a photo of us” just as I was setting my timer on my camera the clouds started to lower revealing the mighty Mount rainier with lenticular clouds above, conditions I could only dream of at the most special time of my life as I went down on one knee and ask the love of my life to marry me…. Thank god she said yes lol
