I have been traveling to the Mount Shasta Area for the past 6 years. Sadly to say, most of the time was for fly fishing and not photography. However, In the past year, I have made it a personal project to leave the fly rod at home and only take the camera gear and began shooting the surrounding areas. I had always seen and driven by Black Butte, the mountain in this photograph. I've thought about this shot and how I could make it work, without stopping in the middle of the I5 Freeway. I finally located the best, unobscured overpass, and the only one of the four overpasses that worked. The first overpass had trees in the middle and blocked the mountain. The second had guard railing and fencing in the way. The third was too close to the mountain and would not allow for the long exposure light trail. And finally, this one.

This photograph was taken 14 minutes after sunset, with an ND10000, and long exposure. due to the terrain and the sunset, the suns reflection of the clouds produced this purplish cloud cover.

This was shot on my Sony a7rV with a 70-200 mm lens.
