Apple Announces the New Mac Mini

Apple Announces the New Mac Mini

We’re here at Apple’s event in Brooklyn, New York! See everything Apple has announced today.

Tim Cook comes back onstage and says: “there’s another small but mighty Mac our users have been waiting for,” and it’s apparent the Mac Mini is getting an update. The Mac Mini is beloved by many creatives for its affordability, and many have been patiently awaiting an update for years. Apple announces every Mac Mini now comes with four cores, with six-core processors also an option with 60 percent faster graphics and up to five times faster overall. Photoshop is expected to run five times faster.

The new Mac Mini now maxes out at 64 GB at 2,666 MHz (SO-DIMMS). Every Mac Mini now comes with all flash storage up to four times faster and capacity of up to 2 TB. The Mac Mini also comes with the new T2 chip that offers 30x faster HEVC video encoding. The new thermal system has double the airflow for better cooling. It comes with Gigabit or 10 Gb Ethernet, four Thunderbolt 3 ports, HDMI, two USB-A ports, and audio out. The six-core processor maxes out at 3.6 GHz.

Apple touts it as the perfect component for live creatives given its portability and power and for building out large server farms.

The Mac Mini starts at $799, with preorders starting today and shipping coming next week.

Exactly what I needed! Thank you Apple!

I’ve been saving for an iMac, but this should more than cover my needs. Plus I’ve already got a great monitor. Great timing!

Nice update!

but the 799 model is just good for excel and word. we have 2018, realisticly you will take at least 512gb ssd, 16gb ram
and the i3 is a 4c 4t cpu with the performance of an ivybridge i5 _ also go with the next step the 6core - than you are around 1900 and this is insane and the real starting price for something you wanna work with

I believe it has user upgradeable RAM, so practically speaking it should be several hundred dollars less

This new era pricing is insane... I really don't know, what you guys in the US think, but for the rest of the world it is just unbelievable... Somebody got crazy over Apple.

You can get a mini but you must pay so Apple makes the same as on a MacBook pro :)

Staying with the same integrated GPU is a bit of a disappointment, but can use an eGPU so that's good. It's what most people asked for. We knew it wasn't going to be $499. The all-around upgrades merit the new price.

I wonder if the CPU is still soldered? Likely the RAM can be upgraded... The SSD is less likely but aftermarkets have been done before...

Someone please chime in: For daily photo editing (albeit not too intensive, mainly batch editing wedding photos on lightroom or Capture One/Photoshop) would you suggest getting a 2018 Mac Mini with the i7 6-core and higher ram/ssd, and 4k display or the 5k 27" iMac with discrete graphics and a more dated processor? Newer processor and integrated graphics vs older processor and discrete GPU? Thank you!

Included is the wonderful Apple Tax. Ridiculously overpriced for what you get, as is for all their products.
