Fujifilm Officially Announces the X-T1 IR (Infrared) Mirrorless Camera

Building on the wild popularity of the X-T1, Fujifilm has announced the X-T1 IR, which features the same X-Trans CMOS II sensor found in the X-T1, with expanded sensitivity to wavelengths between 380 and 1,000 nm. Those who love Fujifilm's X Series of bodies and lenses and are looking to expand their creativity are in for a treat. Announced today, the infrared variant of the X-T1 will open new creative possibilities, from otherworldly landscapes to perfect night vision when using an otherwise invisible infrared light source. The X-T1 IR features many of the same great features of the original, including the 16.3 Megapixels APS-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor, 2.36 million dot OLED EVF, articulated rear screen and more, with availability beginning in October of 2015. Check out the complete specs:

I, for one, am quite excited to see this camera. Fujifilm's X-Trans line of sensors are highly regarded for their color rendition; adding the infrared and ultraviolet range should make for quite an interesting and creatively versatile camera. Infrared landscapes have always been a fascination of mine; seeing a native IR-optimized sensor from a large manufacturer holds quite a bit of promise. Read more in the press release below:

X-Series performance for special applications

Experts, professionals, and practitioners can use the new FUJIFILM X-T1 IR in their everyday work, and immediately benefit from its X-Trans CMOS II Sensor, its ultra wide "Real Time" EVF, and its large, high resolution tilting screen. The X-T1 IR maintains the 100% silent electronic shutter of the X-T1, and its electronic viewfinder allows perfect night vision with an infrared light source, normally invisible to the human eye. The exterior of the X-T1 IR is constructed of 100% magnesium alloy, and is built to be weather-resistant, perfect for use in hot or cold, wet or dusty, and other challenging weather conditions. The X-T1 IR has approximately 80 points of weather sealing for outdoor dependability, and can withstand freeze temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C).

It uses an extremely fast and accurate autofocus system, and is compatible with Ultra High Speed UHS-II SD memory cards. yup! I cant wait to see some samples!

I'm curious to see the images from this compared to an infared conversion on another camera. I'm not convinced I couldn't spend $200 and convert my Olympus mirrorless to infared and have the same results. Either way, you have to be really committed to infared photography.
