Images of the New Nikon Z6 and Z7 Cameras and Lenses Leak

With just a little over a day to go before the official announcement, images of the upcoming Nikon mirrorless cameras and lenses have leaked. There's a lot to see!

The images include the two bodies, as well as the lenses being announced initially and the F-to-Z mount adapter. The lenses appear to be a 24-70mm f/4 lens, a 35mm f/1.8, and a 50mm f/1.8, with the zoom likely being a kit lens. All three lenses come with an "S" designation.

Note: the top three images below are of the Z7, while the bottom three are the Z6.

Personally, I'm a fan of the top screen, which reminds me of the Fujifilm GFX 50S. The ergonomics look like about what I'd expect. I also noticed a lack of labeling on the dial behind the shutter button, which to me says it's probably a multifunction control of some sort that possibly switches functions depending on the menu or shooting selection. What do you notice about the camera?

While we don't know the specs tonight, expect the announcement in the next 36 hours or so, which we'll have ready for you. To see all the shots of the new cameras and lenses, head over to Nokishita.

It will be interesting to see what the pricing will be on both. I'm particularly interested in the Z6. For what I do I don't have a need for 45.7 mp. I currently use a D750 and it suites me fine. But I would really appreciate a truly silent shutter and EVF.

I'm assuming I'm one of the very few that couldn't give two squids about video.

I'm waiting to see the specs/price point most of all and see if it's even attainable for my next upgrade. If it's D5 level pricing, or even above D850, it won't be. I fear they are going to be so far price above their current DSLR's and any Mirrorless that Sony has that they are going to be restricting their sales from the get go.
Another thing I don't understand...the 24-70 being "f4"...arguably one of the most used lenses by any dslr pro on the planet is 24-70 f2.8...why if you are trying to make a splash in this market would you not start at 2.8? Perhaps it's to sell more with the adaptor for those already with the f2.8?

Weight?

Maybe...but still seems odd to me.

They are throttling technology and trying to get the R&D done for lenses to not be gigantic. So they’re going to release the bodies with lenses nobody really “needs” because they want you buying an adapter and buying old lenses.

Then, in 6-12 months, they’ll release lenses slowly and then a cheaper body... so on and so forth.

Canon and Nikon have been throttling tech for a few years now using the Apple scheme of things to ensure they suck all the money out of people.

People are so brand loyal they know they can get away with it.

These two cameras seem to be copies of the A7R3 and A73 - they're the same size & weight. So, they obviously don't have the robust build quality of the D850. Plus they have basically the same hardware and layout of the Sonys. People have been going crazy on the main Nikon rumor site for last twelve or so hours now that the hype is finally gone.

It is exactly where they should be: first gen middle of the market product. People were going crazy thinking this was going to be a D6 replacement. They'll likely test the waters and release their flagship once they get the feedback about what they failed to meet or failed to deliver as well as the all key ergonomics question.

I also think that without those aggressive primes like the 58 f0.95 and the, 35 f1.2, and the 52 f0.9, all of which we saw patents for, the launch of a Z8 or Z1 will be somewhat lacking. This glass is ok at the entry level of the market but far from what the Z-mount can deliver versus F.

Nikon has to show why Z is the future for their optics too, given all the other benefits of mirrorless are well understood and the competition is well positioned to challenge. That ultra fast glass, and ultra wide glass is a big soft spot for everybody in the FF mirrorless right now. Nikon should exploit that asap.

Damn...

It's going to take me a year to save the money for this thing.

*sigh*

No problem as it will be released in 2019 anyway ;)
