Panasonic's Beautiful Lumix CM1 and Leica Lens are Coming to the US

Back in September, Fstoppers announced the news that Panasonic's Lumix CM1 would be coming into the world boasting a 20-megapixel camera paired with some gorgeous Leica glass. Now we have word that the phone along with its sexy glass partner will be coming to the US this summer. Will this finally be the mobile device you ditch your iPhone for?

Having been an iPhone user myself for many years, its tough to imagine pushing my way to another mobile device let alone another OS, especially Android. Not saying its going to be easy to convert me but with a phone that is looking to change the game in mobile shooting can you blame me? The Lumix CM1 has a 4.7-inch, 1080p display, a Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM. All running the latest software from Android, KitKat 4.4. Shooting 4K video as well as RAW shooting capabilities, all while using its beastly 1" sensor. Rarely seeing cameras coming to the US with these types of specs its a great feeling to finally be able to look away from my iPhone and on to something greater in form and function.

The phone will be available unlocked for about $1,000, making it available to AT&T along with T-Mobile.

Now THIS is what I've been waiting for. Any news of it making it to Verizon?

I'm not sure of this at all, but seeing as it was originally only a Europe-only model for Europe's GSM networks, I'd say the future is grim for any CDMA networks here in the U.S. like Sprint and Verizon. Most likely, if it happens at all, it'll be for the next release cycle... This is all just my own speculation, though.

A little clunky as a phone, I suppose, but lovely as a camera. Don't think you'll be stuffing that in your back pocket tho...

Woo - I want's the precious!
(Would look into DOF of 1" sensor at 2.8 first though)

Nokia had, and has, Zeiss and no one cared. Anyway looks bulky and hard to carry, specially inside a pocket but its damn beautiful and the camera sure looks amazing.

True, but it's a Leica lens. Whoo!

True! Hehehe :)

Surprised the lens info wasn't listed in the article:
28mm F2.8-F11 (edit: 76mm FF equiv)
Also there's a focus ring on the lens that can be assigned to shutter speed and aperture as well.

Actually, it's a 10.2mm lens, which is the equivalent of a 28mm on FF (2.7x crop factor due the 1" sensor). ;)

Focusing ring is cool!

Why are some complaining that this camera phone is bulky yet also complain that smaller DSLR's are too small for their BIG hands? Wish people would just stop complaining and whining about cell phone cameras they don't like and get the one you would like that will not be as good as this. I welcome this camera phone and think it's a big step in the right direction for those that love to shoot with small cell phone cameras.

I wouldn't walk with this phone on my pocket, not because i can't, but because it would damage it. So yeah, some people complain because they don't want their phone destroyed like the bending iPhones.

I like to have one, but with the price tag of $1000 I think I'll pass. I will buy something else with my $1000. Maybe the Sony A7000 or upgrade to a Full frame body.
