Among the biggest complaints about the Sony α7 line is the lack of glass available for the new FE mount. So far they've done a good job producing two semi-fast standard primes (a 35mm f/2.0 and a 55mm f/1.8), and two slow-ish pro-zooms (a 24-70 f/4.0 and a 70-200 f/4.0). Yesterday, Sony Japan released a teaser image for a 16-35mm FE lens. The 16-35mm would round out the "Holy Trinity" of FE lenses, making the α7 line an even more appealing option to people who rely on those focal-lengths — though it would be nice to see them make some f/2.8 zooms, too.
According to Sony Alpha Rumors, it's possible that we'll see a September 12th launch date for this lens (the Sony E-Mount 4K launch event) or on the 15th, a day before Photokina.
As for me, I can't really consider moving over to an α7 line camera until Sony rolls out an 85mm. When that happens I seriously need a Sony rep to give me a call.
Does rounding out the focal-lengths in their zoom lenses tempt any of you to switch over? What other gaps are there in the lens-lineup? Tell us in the comments below.

Yessssssss! Been waiting for this for months. I am shooting mostly with an A7r these days, and the dramatic range is insanely good for landscapes. Right now I am using a A mount 16-35 with an adaptor and it's big and heavy. Stoked to be so close to getting light for my landscape kit.
With the lackluster performance of the 24-70mm f/4, I'm not too sure what to expect out of this lens. The f/2.8 for A-mount is tack sharp forsure and so is the 24-70 f/2.8, love using them. Hopefully, it is as good or better. Hoping for an 85mm and 135mm!
You and I both, Timothy. Are you shooting with an a7 of some sort?
What do you find lacklustre about the 24-70 f/4?
I've been using it with my A7R since June (made the switch from a 5D Mark II) and have been loving the images it has produced.
A 2.8 70-200 and a quality 1.4x teleconverter would be great. I've been waiting on an FE wide-angle before making the switch, so it looks like this will be the month. Can you have these Sony reps contact me as well ;)
Ryan if we both switch over together maybe they'll cut us a deal! :)
With almost every lens in existence working with the Sony A7 series why is everyone annoyed with the lack of Sony lenses. I have both the A7R and A7S, and both work wonderfully with Canon, Pentax, Minolta, M42 and T2 lenses. Sure I have to use adapters and autofocus is slow but image quality is at least as good if not better than that off their OEM bodies.
If you're waiting for Sony to roll out lenses prior to buying into the A7 line, you're missing out on a lot of great shooting opportunities!
Excited for this lens, I need something a bit wider for my rig shots! Hopefully the price is reasonable.
