Voigtlander Announces Three Fast New Lenses for Sony Full Frame Cameras

Voigtlander has announced the launch of three new “SE” — Still Edition — lenses for Sony full-frame cameras: 35mm f/1.2, 40mm f/1.2, and 50mm f/1.2. These metal-bodied prime lenses are intended specifically for stills photographers.

The lenses are designed as slightly cheaper versions of three existing Sony-mount lenses, albeit with aperture rings that are clickable rather than declickable (more suited to videography) in order to achieve a lower price — around 20% cheaper.

As is standard with Voigtlander lenses, the build is tank-like, with an all-metal chassis. Expect them to carry some weight as a result — each lens will weigh well over 14 oz (400 grams). Despite the vintage feel, the lenses communicate fully with the Sony camera, allowing the camera to switch to magnification mode when focusing if desired.

The Nokton 35mm f/1.2 SE will go on sale in May and has a recommended retail price of €999.

The 40mm f/1.2 Nokton SE will follow in June and will cost €899.

The 50mm f/1.2 Nokton SE will then be released in July, costing €999.

For more information, check out the Voigtlander website, and Fotomagazin.de for some of the technical details (both are in German). Possibly the most exciting prospect is the 40mm as the declickable version has received solid reviews over on B&H Photo.

Cosina has really started to make great stuff with their home brand Voightlander.

Do we know if these are optically identical to the recently released M mount versions?
