Will We See Sigma Lenses for Canon Mirrorless Cameras Soon?

Sigma's lenses have become quite popular for offering fantastic image quality at prices far below first party options. As Canon's RF mount continues to gain momentum, rumors of Sigma releasing a lens lineup for Canon mirrorless cameras have begun to emerge.

Canon Rumors is reporting that Sigma may be planning a "major" announcement involving Canon's RF mount, with plans for quickly bringing a lineup to the market in 2021. More interestingly, one of the sources said there are no plans for converting current Art lenses and that the company would instead be releasing a set of lenses designed specifically for the R mount. Given the extreme designs Canon has released, I would not be surprised if Sigma follows suit (at least to some degree, as they likely want to keep prices more manageable than some of the top-end RF lenses).

Although it is just a rumor at the time, I would be very surprised if Sigma is not seriously planning an RF lineup, as Canon's market share and the R5's spectacular specs will probably make it a very successful camera and increase the RF mount's success, with cameras like the R6 and likely an R1 model following closely behind.

"Will We See Sigma Lenses for Canon Mirrorless Cameras Soon?"

I sure hope so!

But I am hoping that they make different lenses than what Canon, Sony, and Nikon already offer.

What photographers need are not just cheaper versions of the same lenses that are already available ..... but rather, lenses like the 300-800mm, or the 18-35mm f1.8, or the 120-300mm f2.8 ...... lenses that no other manufacturer makes.

Less expensive alternatives? Meh, not really interested. I'll buy used if I want to save money.

Creative, new focal length and aperture combinations that nobody else makes? Heck, yeah! Bring it on!

I'm hoping for both! When I look at my lens lineup, if I wanted to replace them all with their Canon RF siblings, it will be a small fortune for each. If Sigma can help take the bite out of that: hurray!

A "made for mirrorless" 18-35mm f1.8 would be great. So many video shooters still on APS-C, and plenty still shooting in crop mode on FF.
