Not Quite Sure About This One

I left half a bottle of Aquafina in my car during the winter and it froze solid. I was intrigued by the pattern the air bubbles took on as it froze. I cut away the bottle so I could capture something unique to my eye.

I experimented with some lights and came away with this. I like the colors and the pattern of the trapped air in the ice but that's about all I came away with.

What do you think? Does it do anything for you?

Original post is about the 1st picture - the 2nd and 3rd were added after comments.

Not much, frankly, but keep up the good work.

I would agree with the above comment, but I do see some potential here. The patterns look very good, but if you want to try again, I'd advise you to get much closer and get something more like the banner image for our group. I think it could work well that way.

Thanks, Matthew. You know I did try freezing another bottle but the bubbles didn't freeze in quite the same pattern. But I do have some closer shots of the patterns from this freeze. I'll give those an edit and post.

I'm excited.

Uploaded!

I'm going to go with what most of the others said and suggest colors. However, I like the second shot so much, I think it could be done in post. I've had success with similar shots using split toning.

Thanks, Matthew. I'll give it a go.

Thanks for chiming in!

Wish I could have said more.

It's all good! Hey I didn't give you much to work with haha. But since it's kind of abstract I was I checking to see if anyone may have seen any more than my eye.

I've got a few in various genres that I like but know they would not elicit much praise here, but I am tempted to post them nonetheless.

In art classes you have to stand up with your work before a live audience of your fellow students to hear what they think. Instructors advise to not be apologetic about your work, say what's good about it and tell what you were trying to accomplish.

I don't even comment here on 98% or more of the posts. You are doing good in my estimation, such as it is, humble as it may be.

I like the composition and the contrast between the two objects. I could go on but I would embarass you. See what you can do yourself in talking up your images. Doesn't have to be fancy.

I appreciate your input. I'm always open to critique and I've had some scathing commentary so far so I don't think I'd be embarrassed. Besides, I'm here to learn.

I like your suggestion of talking up my images. I can usually do a good job but with this particular one i was on the fence about it.

That second picture is astounding. You may be onto something with colored lights. Imagine that on a blue background with yellow and red beamed in there selectively, or even monotone green on blue background. Makes me want to fool around with some holiday lights I have here. l'd love to see that with the highest lights yellow and the rest green on a blue background. Easy for me to say.

Glad you like the 2nd! I shot this a couple winters ago, and since then I've gotten some LumeCubes with gels that I can definitely put to use.

I love the idea of the colours and i think adding some blue and or yellow will result in some stunning images. Of the three, i prefer the third one but with a different crop... i took the liberty of cropping your shit as follows...

shot (not sh1t - sorry for the typo)

I had actually cropped a bit from the left side because it wasn't very interesting, but I think I like this crop more.

No worries about the typo, it gave me a good laugh!

Hahaha......That was hilarious😂

WOW! I never expected to see the same kind of photo I took in May this year on Fstoppers! I froze water in the fridge and got this: (https://fstoppers.com/photo/482614) You could probably try it with water again and make the whole thing thinner. I see great potential in your work!

I've always wondered who took that picture! I was surprised to see that someone had shot it too. I love it! The colors are quite nice. Thanks for the advice and seeing the potential!

I'm in tune with the discussion; quite interesting and it will be interesting to see how this creative process unfolds.

My eye goes to the negative space, in a way, as well on the first image.

That's a great crop. B&W really brings out the beauty of those crystals. That shadow/reflection is not something I noticed in the larger color image. Adds a lot to the composition.

Thanks, Joe. Really love this edit!
