Storm at White Sands

I visited the White Sands National Park in February. We were there for 4 days. The first day we arrived in the late afternoon and just did a quick hike to check it out thinking we had 3 more days to explore. The next two days brought high winds (50-60mph) to the entire region, so we were unable to visit the park. On the final day, it rained all morning and we were thinking it would be a bust. Things started clearing up in the early afternoon, so we took off on a hike. The light was spectacular and the distant storm front made for some amazing scenes. Here is one of my favorites from that trip. It was well worth the wait!

Tom, I've come back to this image several times. Each time I am more and more intrigued by it.
This image is very strong and you should be very proud of it.
This image would look great printed large all the better to be able to see all the textures and the nuanced colours.
Good work and thanks for sharing it with the group.

Thanks for the kind comments Julian. I’m glad you like it. I did make a print and hope to have it framed soon. Definitely a keeper!

Glad you posted here, Tom. Quite surreal.

Thank for suggesting to post here. I had not visited this group before. Some cool stuff here! It was indeed a surreal scene. I’m glad I was able to capture that feeling.

Very nice, Tom! I really love this image on every level - lighting, colors, composition, layers. So much to enjoy. Thank you!

Thanks for posting this wonderful image Tom. The lighting is wonderful - gently outlining the form of the dunes and providing such a dramatic backdrop.

Well done!
