This is a photo I took this afternoon while covering a volleyball match for my University. I would love to hear some thoughts about the edit or the original image. I am mostly sharing this because the minimalistic aim in my edit so far means that you all may enjoy it—anything for sparking conversation!
I like this photo, but I think the subject needs to emerge more from the darkness into more solidness - maybe through sharpening and contrast? What do you think?

I totally agree that both images can be improved by cleaning up and re-cropping. The amount of sharpness/contrast increase may be subjective, but I think Jennifer's examples do make the images pop.
Excellent editing job. These do stand out much more.
