This month's revolves around images that contain a story, whether that be within the image itself or the background surrounding the image.
I believe stories are such an important component of images and can add yet another layer of interest.
My example is the story of a single tree. I had visited the location many times, capturing images in Spring, Autumn and fog, but it is the winter shots that tell a real story.
On the day in question a large storm was due, with schools and many businesses closing ahead of the inclement weather. In the midst of the storm and with road conditions worsening I braved the elements and took the opportunity to get out there, wading through a foot of snow to capture the shots.
The story for me is one of calm serenity. It may not be initially evident from the winter images but there was a heavy blanket of snow falling, the fresh snow creating such a wonderful backdrop and pristine foreground.
The area was completely devoid of any activity, the falling snow limiting both visibility and any essence of sound.
Do you have an emotional connection with any of your own images, and something you'd be willing to share?
I'll leave you with one of my favorite story links, both image (select 'the angel gabriel') and audio story behind it are well worth a visit.
Great idea, Alan! This is the part of photography I love the most - "reading" the story within a photo or creating one of my own. Looking forward to posts! All your photos are gorgeous, but that last one has the best story to tell!
Thanks Jennifer. That image hangs proudly on my wall.
Entitled "youngest of seven" it reflects my wife's family where she is.... you guessed it... the youngest of seven kids......
I love it when things have hidden connections.
