Thanks goes out to Joe Cole on his suggestion to visit Ricket's Glen in PA. Was able to get out for the weekend and snap a few nature shots while hiking.
I am still working on this, I will probably post the camera RAW and this final in Joe Cole's Before After group, but would like to hear any feedback on it. Cheers!
The bones are definitely there Joe. Composition looks sound, and the water flow is defined nicely.
I think once you bring up the shadows and make some local adjustments it will be stunning.
Thanks very much Alan, always appreciate your thoughts.
So, you aren't liking the shadows huh? I was planning on keeping them deep (about 5% - 10% above perfect black). I'll take another look at that.
It's not far from finished, do you see any other local adjustments besides the shadows that you find are bothering you? This image has a green tint that I missed somehow, that will be corrected in the final.
I am creating a more artistically 'interpreted' image with this one rather than reproducing the realism.
It all depends on your artistic intent Joe. As you indicated it was a work in progress I assumed you'd be following the norms.
TBH I am not sure if the the darks are bothering me or not - had it not been for the fact you mentioned the work was unfinished I may have commented that I found the image on the dark side, but perhaps refreshingly different.
For adjustments my eyes are screaming out for a little more detail in the rocks, and to isolate them a little more from the water.
As i stands I find the blacks of water & rock blending together somewhat. with the eye being drawn to the whites and contrast of green against darks.
i hope this is helpful and sorry if i sound a bit confusing. At the end of the day i appreciate your artistic interpretation and willingness to drift from realism.
